On July 26, 2017, I checked on a medical bill problem for a client from Michigan City, Indiana. His agent got a copy of the bill and brought it to me.
I researched the bill and found the problem. Again, Medicare failed to send the claim information to our client’s insurance company. You can’t blame an insurance company for not paying a claim that it never got. I easily wrote a letter that should fix the problem and get the bill paid. Thus, we saved the client $2,191.
This failure of the Medicare system to get claims to senior citizens’ insurance companies is the most frequent reason for Medicare related medical bills to not get paid. In previous articles and in my book, I explained why I believe that Medicare bill mistakes alone cost senior citizens throughout America over one billion dollars a year in false bills that they should not receive. But, many seniors do pay those false bills. It is a national tragedy.
I have tried and tried to get this problem some attention from Members of Congress or other federal officials. So far, I have not found people in the federal government who care. It seems that if the system is making money for them but costing senior citizens a billion dollars per year, there is no problem that needs their attention.
If you care about this issue, may I suggest that you copy this article and send it to your U.S. Senators and the Member of Congress who represents you.
