Think Medicaid Works Well?

S. O. S. – SPEAKING OF SENIORS
By Woodrow Wilcox

On March 22, 2017, I received a letter from a man in Hobart, Indiana.  This is how the letter started.

“Dear Mr. Woodrow Wilcox, can you please, please help me?  I applied for the QMB (Medicaid) back on October 20, 2016.  My application was approved but not processed.  Every time I call the Social Security office in Merrillville or the State of Indiana Medicaid office, they tell me to call the other.  I live on Social Security Disability and $1290 monthly is my only income!”

The only thing that I could do for this man was to tell him that I was not the person to help him.  I suggested that he contact the township trustee office in his area.  They are usually knowledgeable about resources and contacts to help people in need.  If he is a veteran, the county has an office to help veterans find assistance and get through the maze of paperwork to get help.

In 2009, the leader of a think tank in Washington, D.C. asked me to edit a research project which the think tank had sponsored on problems with Medicaid.  I was flattered and honored that a think tank based in D.C. noticed my articles on Medicare problems and thought enough of my writing to ask for my help.  In that project, I learned much about the problems with Medicaid.  Some of them are similar to the problems in Medicare.

But, my expertise is limited to Medicare problems and my work is limited to helping only the senior citizen clients of the insurance agency where I work.  I have a very full plate just helping our clients.  Even if I desperately wanted to help others, I could not.  Fighting the system to get things done for our clients is quite time consuming.  I am already at or beyond my limit as one person.

Note: Woodrow Wilcox is the senior medical bill case worker at Senior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville, Indiana.  He has saved clients of that insurance agency over one million dollars by fighting mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system.  He wrote the book SOLVING MEDICARE PROBLEM$ (www.SolvingMedicareProblems.com) and posts articles at www.WoodrowWilcox.com.
